Get the Healthy Glowing Skin with Turmeric

Even before it was introduced in the West, Turmeric had been a part of the Indian and Chinese culture, especially in religious rites. Until now, turmeric is still used in many Hindu traditional celebrations, like the Holi festival where people apply it on their bodies as an ornament. It is also used as a dye for holy robes and saris.

In Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, ground turmeric is mixed with gram flour made into a paste and rubbed all over the body of the bride-to-be on the eve of the wedding ceremony to give her a healthy glowing skin. But bridal beautification aside, turmeric has a long list of skin care benefits such as:

– acne and blackheads treatments, especially when used with other natural ingredients

– reduction of skin pigmentation, dark spots, skin inflammation, and blemishes

– prevention and improvement of dry skin and wrinkles, thus slowing the aging process and helping your                                                          skin look much younger

– food or supplement nourishing the skin and giving it a natural glow

Here are some methods how to use turmeric powder to have healthy glowing skin:

Signs of Aging – Use turmeric as an exfoliating agent by combining equal parts of turmeric powder and gram flour and adding some water and yogurt or milk. Then, apply it on your face and leave it to dry. Wash it off with lukewarm water while massaging your face in circular motions.

Wrinkles, Large Pores, and Dark Circles – For wrinkles, combine turmeric powder with rice powder and tomato juice. Apply evenly on your skin and allow to dry. To reduce your pores and exfoliate your skin, mix it with honey. For eliminating both wrinkles and dark circles, combine it with sugarcane juice and buttermilk.

Acne – Acne is caused by too much oil secretion from the sebaceous glands. To reduce oil excess, combine turmeric powder with lemon juice and water. Apply the paste gently on your face and leave it for 15 minutes before scrubbing it off gently with water. To control too much oil secretion, add orange juice and sandalwood powder and leave it on your face for 10 minutes. Then, rinse it off with water.

Stretch Marks – Mix turmeric powder with besam flour, water, and yogurt. Apply it evenly on your stretch marks and let it dry.

Skin Pigmentation – Mix it with cucumber or lemon juice and apply to the dark spots to lighten skin pigmentation.

Cracked Heels – Prepare a mixture of castor or coconut oil and turmeric powder. Then apply it on your cracked heels at least 15 minutes before taking a bath.

Oily skin – To reduce oil, mix a pinch of turmeric powder with 3 tablespoons of orange juice and one to two tablespoons of sandalwood powder, which has natural astringent properties. Apply it evenly on your face and leave it between 10 and 15 minutes before rinsing with water.

Full Body Scrub – Mix it with gram flour and rose water using it as a body scrub before taking a shower. Using it regularly will give your skin a clear and spotless look.

Moisturizer – Use turmeric powder as a moisturizer and fight dry skin by mixing it with milk and applying it on your skin.

Skin Diseases – Turmeric is also an effective cure against a number of skin diseases, like eczema, psoriasis, rashes, and scars caused by smallpox and chickenpox.
